Why is prenatal workout so important ? 

My entire life I've been active. This didn’t change when I got pregnant. It became even more important. I wondered if I was allowed to exercise. I approached Annelies, a personal trainer, to ask her the question. She was so kind and friendly that we instantly hit it off. Kind people are my kinda people. She informed me that its important to stay active during pregnancy, it would decrease the chances to have complications and make the pregnancy more bearable physically and mentally. And it did! I was able to work until the big day! :) 

Annelies gave me the right exercises to strengthen my body and pelvic floor. Without the knowledge and expertise of Annelies I wouldn’t feel safe to work out. Especially during my pregnancy. She corrected my form where needed and guided me throughout my pregnancy journey. She made me feel safe and strong. 

We would train and measure once a week. If I was off track she’d make damn sure I was back on track in no time.

During my pregnancy I had to change my diet. I had to incorporate more carbs in my diet to get a spike in energy. Due to this I gained a few kg. I wasn’t used to eating carbs so it made me a little bit sad to see the scale go up. But it was more important to me to eat healthy for my baby. Always putting Noah first. Annelies was my guide and after I got back on track, I figured out how and especially what I had to eat to keep my weight balanced and stabilized. She also gave me a handful list of what I shouldn’t eat to protect my baby’s health. THANK YOU Annelies! You made my pregnancy better than I could ever hope for. 

In the third trimester your body makes the hormone relaxine. This natural hormone makes your joints smoother in preparation to give birth. But other joints like ankles, knees etc also get weaker. Thats why you should keep active with the right exercises to enjoy your pregnancy as long as possible without complications.

Some excersices we did were: squats, lunges, deadlifts, etc. You should always be careful with ab exercises, weights, etc. to not harm your body and more importantly your baby.

I used to watch lots of YouTube video about with what women would suffer during pregnancy. Sore hips, knees, back, bad condition... These exercises even helped me not to leek in my pants during pregnancy lol ;) 

Working out during my pregnancy was one of the best decisions of my life. It made me feel happy and more prepared for this little bean to come out. I also have the feeling it made my recovery even easier. 

Now I’m giving my body the much needed time to rest. Post 8 weeks I'm starting my post workouts with Annelies. Can’t wait! Bear in mind to give your body the rest it deserves and needs. You might look fit on the outside but your body inside definitely still needs to recuperate.
